A Brief History of Bidford Fire Station by Frank Spiers MBE
 
 
1902 
The Fire Brigade was formed.
 
Captain H.Collins, Lieutenant W.Gardner, Fireman C.Manders, F.Butler, H.Bennett, R.T.Bennett, H.Ryde, C.Goddhall, S.Smith, G.Bennett, W.M.Wilkes, E.C.Smith.
 
This was a horse drawn Fire Engine stationed at the back of the Mason's Arms (now The Anglo Saxon).
 
1906 
Harry Collins resigned as Captain of the Fire Brigade and Sam Smith, the following week W.Gardner was appointed Captain.
 
1917
The clerk was informed that several new members had joined the services.
Fred Houghton, Capt.C.Stephen Lait? PT Bennett succeeded as Capt., C.Stephens, W.Gardner, J.Taylor, J.Cole, J.Houghton, F.Holder, A.T.Wilcox, S.Langston, J.Wilkes.
 
1919
Fred Houghton returns from the Army and took over as Captain of the Fire Brigade
 
1926
A report on the Fire Brigade states the difficulty in catching the two horses to draw the Fire Engine is a fatal flaw in the usefullness to the Brigade.
 
1928
Fire Brigade Captain F Houghton with Mr Sam Mason and G.R.Mason visited Birmingham to view a Chemical Engine. This will make the engine available all over the village.
 
1930
The Engine is to moved from the back of the Mason's Arms to the home of the Captain in Grange Road along with its crew, Capt. Fred Houghton, Tom Houghton, P.Houghton, F.Swift, H.Wilcox, W.Gill, J.Shorey.
